Cybermen were always the monsters that scared me the most! Not just because they were an awesome military force, but because sometimes they could be sleek and silver and right behind you without you even knowing. And with one of the all-time classic monsters returning, and a script from one of our finest novelists, it’s no surprise we have attracted such stellar names as Tamzin, Jason and Warwick. – Steven Moffat
“Not just because they were an awesome military force,” frankly, I’m baffled as to how any awesome military force can be scary. Not in that primal way that The Moff is talking about here.
“but because they could be sleek and silver and right behind you without you even knowing,” I cannot think of a single story in which the Cybermen (or as my Mum likes to call them, Zybermen) are anything other than a enormous fucking noisy machine coming at you.
“it’s no surprise we have attracted such stellar names as Tamzin (Outhwaite), Jason (Watkins) and Wawick (Davis)” I’m confused, because those three actors are the dictionary definition of “jobbing.” I hardly think their agent rang them up and said “Fancy doing Doctor Who love?” and they said “No, no way, unless they guarantee a classic villain and a decent scriptwriter” Bollocks. They all had a bathroom that needed doing and central heating bills to pay.
Is it too much to suggest that dear Steven (who, I do love) has started to behave like those deluded Hollywood producers who speak with egregious enthusiasm at the mere sight of a sandwich?
